Following his success at the Royal Opera House in London, the well known Albanian tenor Saimir Pirgu is attempting to shine on another stage. Once again he will be interpreting the role of Rinuccio in the opera, “Gianni Schicchi” in Los Angeles, in the US. According to an article of the BBC, there are plans afoot for Placido Domingo and Woody Allen to produce Puccini’s opera in which the Albanian tenor has been invited to take part. However, there is no more information to hand on this. But there is absolutely no doubt of the success of the Albanian tenor at the Royal Opera House in London. British critics have described Pirgu as one of the best tenors of the future. During these days when the opera, “Gianni Schicchi” has been staged alongside the opera, “L’heure Espagnole,” cultural and daily media have been writing about this work and about the Albanian tenor. The Times says that Saimir Pirgu is an artist who performs the role of the lover very well- he is ardent and suitable and alongside his performance Dina Kuznetsova, his lover in this opera, presents a graceful version and very clever rendition of the aria, “O Mio Babbino Caro.” In this Opera by Puccini the Albanian tenor plays the role of the lover, but whose road is blocked by the problems of an inheritance. After endless adventures Rinuccio manages to embrace his betrothed Laureta. Described as a tenor with a perfect voice and a fiery stage performance, the 25 year old Pirgu was the main protagonist of the evening in the main hall of the Royal Opera House in Covent Gardens. The British public was surprised by the courage of the young tenor in taking up such difficult roles in a major opera at such a young age. Selected two years ago for this production which bears the signature of Richard Jones, Pirgu gave it his all in this, his debut in London. “Gianni Schicchi” is a comical opera with one act which is based on the libretto written by Giovacchino Forzano. Forzano based this libretto on a story taken from the famous work of Dante Alighieri “La Divina Commedia.” This is only one of the parts of “Il Trittico”, first performed in New York in 1918. Saimir Pirgu, whose name has become a component of the opera calendars of Milan, ienna, Berlin, London and now the US, has, in less than five years participated in major opera events on three continents. Currently he is working for the “Universal” Recording Studios to launch a second CD of classical music onto the market; the first one was launched one year ago. In this opera Pirgu performs alongside lyrical singers of great fame on the European stages such as Gwynne in the role of Simone, Dina Kuznetsova, Marie Mc Laughlin and Jeffrey Lloyd Roberts.
