Employment up by 3.7%, unemployment down by 1% in 2008

Labor force during the forth quarter 2008 has increased with 5.594 persons from the third quarter of this year. The average number of employed in the private agricultural sector estimated by Albanian Labor Force Survey 2007 is 568,549 persons. In the private non-agricultural sector over the fourth quarter 2008, the average number of employed has increased by 1.78% compared to the third quarter 2008. There is a growing tendency in employment in this sector. The average number of registered unemployed in the third quarter 2008 is 141,495 persons, while the average number of unemployed who receive unemployment benefits is 9,916 persons. The average amount of partial assistance per family is 2,986 ALL, whereas the average amount of full social assistance is 3,798 ALL. The minimum wage level according to the Council of Ministers Decision, No 995 of date 02/07/2008 “For the determination of minimum wage in national level” is 17,000 ALL. The base level of unemployment benefit according to the Council of Ministers Decision No 236 of date 27/02/ 2008 is 5,980 ALL.
