Albania starts a $19.1 million health care project funded from the World Bank

TIRANA, Sept. 26 – The World Bank has given to Albania $15.4 million to help Albania with a project to modernize the health care system, according to the Health Ministry. The project with a total amount of $19.1 million is funded from the World Bank, the Japanese government and the government of Albania. It was launched Sept. 7 after the World Bank credit worth $15.4 million was allocated. It aims at improving the physical and financial access to health services especially at the poor areas and those living in rural and remote areas. It has three components. The first with $7.7 million aims at strengthening health sector stewardship, financing and purchasing. The second component with $10.1 million is for improving primary health care service delivery and the last component with $1.3 million targets the strengthening hospital governance and management.
