Less cigarettes in September, more fuel

TIRANA, Oct. 9 – Import of cigarettes in September saw a falling trend due to the increased excise tax starting this month. But the import for the nine months had an increase of 28 percent compared to the same period last year. There were imported 3,592 tons of cigarettes this year. While fuel saw an increasing trend in September. During this year there have been imported some 245,290 tons of fuel, which is a 10 percent increase or 22,122 tons more than in 2005. Perparim Dervishi, head of the customs department, said that the debt of the companies to the customs was some 7 billion leks, turning down a figure of 35 billion leks of debt mentioned in the media earlier this month.
