TIRANA, Sept. 3 – Minister of public affairs, transport and telecommunications Lulzim Basha said Sunday that the ministry was negotiating with the Tirana Airport partners group on letting Kukes airport operate as an international one as well. Hochtief, one of the Mother Teresa airport, and the Albania government were jointly installing the navigation equipment at the Kukes airport, according to Basha, who said they would likely define how the Kukes airport would operate in the future.
“The main goal is that this investments becomes worth at least a regional functioning. But the government will look for other possibilities so that this airport serves for mountainous tourism and for international air traffic,” said the minister.
Tirana Airport partners do not allow Kukes airport to serve for international flights, something which has been set at the concession contract it has had with the Albanian government.
